Pripyat Calling

No sudden movement
No unnecessary noise
Everything stands still and empty
Just a scattering of toys
Breakfast is long over
Though the plates are never cleared
Time for the dust to settle
Though we’ve waited many years.
Thick limey yellow sunsets
Herald every harrowing dusk
No one present for regrets
That this town became a husk.
No sudden movement
No unnecessary noise
The schools are all still open
but devoid of Girls and Boys.
The Factories are all empty
There is nothing doing here.
Just the crackling of the geiger
And an ever present fear.
