By Moonlight
Here, far away.
One could feel the earth vibrate.
Moon, changing shape and shade.
As we all do under its gaze.
(Yellow Moon by Pearl Jam)
On Friday 11th July 2014 I attended a Pearl Jam concert at the Milton Keynes Bowl. The following piece is inspired by this experience as the photograph of the lamp triggered a memory of the lights used on the stage.
Green orbs oscillating-in keeping with the initial call to the faithful.
Four strings standing true and strong.
Feet planted like the roots of a canopy long ago felled.
In black and white holding the thousands strong in the palm of a hand.
They in turn carry the message in their hearts.
Honoured guest-silver from afar.
Red marks the spot where two voices become one.
The earth vibrates as the drum beats a path to the moon.
A silver gong proclaiming the passing of time.
Thousands of strangers respond as one.
Bound by a shared passion and energy-differences forgotten.
Green orbs extinguished-a moonlit field where the grass sighs.
