The Duelists

It’s a strange moment, when you see The One. I didn’t believe in love at first sight- still don’t, truth be told- how do you explain something when you just know?

It should have happened on Halloween, but it was just an ordinary Saturday. I had just been to fencing class. I walked outside the gym, and that was that. I don’t know how I knew, but I did- this was it. It would work. And as Douglas Adams said, noone would have to get nailed to anything. This was that big love that we all search for, and think will never happen for us.

All I could say was hello. I couldn’t hear what the reply was, through the mask.

But then it came off, and the sword came down, and there was a smile. It was surprising really.

I wasn’t quite expecting a girl.

Writer of mainly spec-fic, I also play roleplaying games, particularly enjoying the shared storytelling.
