Journey To The End Of The Street

You are standing in the high street. There is a small parade of shops in front of you, which includes a betting shop, a massage parlour and an expensive restaurant.

>inventory

You have:
-1 pound (your last)
-a small bottle of peach brandy
-a copy of Big Black Butts magazine

>enter betting shop

In the betting shop. There are some electronic roulette machines on one side, and a counter with two cashiers on the other. TV screens on the wall show live coverage of several events.

>gamble

I don’t know the word “gamble”.

>place bet

What do you want to bet on?

>horserace

With your last pound you place a bet on Stained Glory to win the 2:15 at odds of 100 to 1. A few minutes later the race starts on one of the TVs. Stained Glory starts off lagging behind but slowly creeps up the outside to an unexpected victory. Elated by this unexpected victory, you collect your 100 pounds from the cashier, along with your 1 pound stake.

“Table for one?”

>tell waiter, “yes”

He nods and leads you to a table at the side of the room, then presents you with a menu.

>read menu

You look at the menu, but are unable to focus on the words. The brandy is starting to wear off and you feel a headache coming on.

>order wine

You summon the waiter over and ask for a bottle of the house red. He nods, then disappears into the kitchen. Moments later he reappears carrying a bottle of red wine and a single glass

>drink wine

You grab the bottle out of the waiter’s hand, shove it into your mouth, and tip your head back. You finish the bottle in about 10 seconds. Unfortunately you are unable to keep it down, and promptly vomit on the waiter. He looks at you with undisguised hatred.

“I think you should leave now”
