Empty and Unfurnished

The view from this place is spectacular. Probably securing a seven figure price tag. I can see the whole city tumble beneath my feet – a box of upturned Lego. At dusk I watch the lights appear. They put me in mind of something I read once about beacons and the fall of Troy. As the night descends the whole place seems to light up like the stars in the sky. Ironic that the very source of light pollution imitates that which it obscures. The city a heaving mass of activity is unaware of my prying eyes. Tonight I will sleep above them all. Tomorrow I’ll climb down from my lofty perch and rejoin the ants. A good night’s sleep with the gutter far beneath can be the difference between life and death. I like to think I’ve secured another day.
