The Dark
It’s very dark down here. I suppose it’s supposed to be, it is a cave, after all. Caves are dark, it’s in their nature. This is…hmmm…the best way I can describe it is to say that it’s stupidly dark, really. I know I shouldn’t have wandered off from the tour, but I thought I saw something. It was a flicker of movement, it was…it was definitely something. Someone might have needed help, so I just paused for a moment, really, just to take a look. I thought it would be easy to catch up with everyone else, and I had my parafin lamp to guide me back to them.
I shouldn’t have wandered off, but I saw something, I really did. I shouldn’t have gone to look though, that was a really stupid thing to do, but I thought it would be so easy to find my way back. How complicated could it be?
I know I saw something, and…and what was that? I definitely heard something. That was a thing. A definite something. I’m not sure what it was though. It sounded far away though. Maybe it was just the tour. Maybe they’re looking for me.
It didn’t sound like the tour.
The lamp’s getting dimmer now, I guess the oil must be running out. There’s the sound again. It’s getting closer now. It’s…it’s definitely not the tour.
The lamp’s gone out. I’ll just wait for my eyes to adjust to the dark, I’ll be able to see soon.
There’s the sound again. It’s here.
I can’t see. Why aren’t my eyes adjusting?
It’s very dark down here.
