To The Writer Of My Life

To the writer of my life,

Re: Your recent use of hats.

The fez at the London Film and Comic Con was a nice comedic touch; I think we can all agree on that. Sure, it was a little predictable, but I can’t fault your timing. It showed up at exactly the right place and time, and I certainly have no complaints about the price, heh. Not sure that trying to do the fez joke a second time at Auto Assembly really worked, but others were having fun with it…more of a recurring background theme, eh? I think I get what you were going for there.

The red bowler hat today, on the other hand, was a master stroke, seriously. I don’t think I’d have thought of that one, and having her be the one to notice it and point it out just made the moment even more heart wrenchingly painful. So thanks for that. The rain, the shared umbrella, all at a moment when not saying those words just wasn’t possible anymore probably would have been enough on their own…but adding the hat just before, that was genius.

So, well done, excellent writing…

Now, as a cold, hard rain lashes down against my window through the dark night, I can’t help but think…you’re veering into cliché now.

I.

  1. Kind of like stream-of-consciousness.

Thoughtful and filled with emotion, too. I like how you compare some greater power or creative force or fate to the “writer” And the narrator is giving a “comment” or critique of the way the “writer” has created the events of his life, especially those of the last day.

I like this piece very much!

  2. Hey Rivka, nice to be back. Thanks for all your kind comments lately on my older posts. I thrive on the encouragement! Also you are so close to the mark sometimes it’s freaky, you spot things that’d I’d expect only those who know me really well to see!
