I Should Tell You
I should tell you a tale about knights and young maidens trapped in the tower. About an evil Goblin King stealing a fine maiden away from a noble hero. Maybe some wicked parents should keep their beautiful daughter locked away from the world, until a handsome hero comes and saves her. It should be a story of romance and adventure, of love winning out against all the odds.
I should tell you a story to reassure you that love never dies, that no matter what, true love conquers all. It should inspire you and fill you with hope, make you dare to dream that maybe, just maybe, everything happens for a reason, that there’s a plan, and that we’re all headed for a happy ending.
I should tell you.
I should tell you about sitting on cold, hard stone steps. About waiting in darkness, looking out at the light and wondering what the sun feels like. About spiral staircases that take you round and round in circles and bring you back out where you started.
I should tell you all this and more, but it would all just be words, and wouldn’t tell you how I feel.
I should tell you…but I won’t.
