The House By The Lake
“It’s a wonderful house,” said the woman. “I’m surprised it’s still on the market.”
The couple were both young urban professionals looking to get away from the city. He was a computer programmer who had quit to write crime novels, she was a columnist for a broadsheet and thus could work anywhere.
The estate agent cleared his thoat. “Well, I suppose I should tell you. Some people have been put off by the history of the building.”
“History? What do you mean?” The woman seemed apprehensive but there was a glimmer of excitement in the man’s eyes.
“Well, a couple of years ago there was a dentist living here with his wife. a gang broke in, killed him and raped her.”
“Oh that’s horrible!”
“Yes. And a couple of years before that there was a family living here, and the father smashed his wife and kids heads in with a hammer before blowing his head in with a shotgun. And before that there was the ritual murder, and before that there was a murder-suicide by a young romanian couple, and there was the woman who was found skinned alive, and before the house was built there was an asylum which burned down with over a hundred people still inside.”
“We’ll take it!” said the man. the estate agent smiled and told them how happy he was. Then he stabbed them to death.

Well, now you’ve taken all our ideas for the coming week! In one story.
This is an evil house. An Amityville level house.
I wish you could have made it a little longer, before the twist at the end. But it’s good, and quirky.
