I used to be in love with a girl but she (left me/ died). After it happened I (was inconsolable/ bounced back pretty quickly/ began drinking heavily). Eventually I (met someone else/ lost my job/ moved to Canada/ wrote a book about it). It’s been a couple of years since it happened and I’m (still drinking heavily/ in A.A. now/living in Mexico/ working on a different book/ still in the same job). I think about her a lot, mainly when I’m (drunk/ walking past a cemetary/ publicising the book/ at the dogfights/ travelling/at work/ masturbating).

I always enjoy your autobiographical stuff, Dan.

Kind of an interactive form of fiction? I think you were being sarcastic, but maybe you should do more of these, and look into marketing them. I’m being serious here. It’s a cool idea, writing a story (and make it a solid story, too) with several plot-options at critical junctions in the story as you’ve done above. Some from column A, from column B, from column C. It would be fun, like a fiction-writing game. People would eat it up.
But it does satirize a lot of movie and tv script writing these days.
Anyway, this was clever, Dan.
