Yes…yes, officer, I have been drinking…
It’s my mate’s birthday. Well, I say my “mate”, he’s just a guy from work really, we get on okay, but I guess I probably wouldn’t normally choose to socialise with him. But, you know how it is when it’s someone’s birthday and everyone’s going down to the pub after work, it just seems rude not to. I was only going to have a half, really, but he bought me a pint, and so did Mickey, and then it was my round so, well, I didn’t think it would do any real harm, would it?
They’re good lads, really, and I didn’t want to spoil their fun by being the boring one sitting in the corner with a glass of Coke. I suppose I’ll lose my license now, but, well, it’s not the end of the world, is it? The bus to work goes straight past my house, I guess I’ll just have to get used to getting up a bit earlier in the morning. Besides, I need to lose a few pounds and all the extra walking I’ll be doing will do me good. Every cloud has a silver lining, eh?
I know, it was stupid of me to drive, but, it’s only ten minutes in the car to get home, I really didn’t think it would do any harm. I guess not thinking was the problem. I…I really don’t know how it happened. One minute I was driving along…and…well, I was concentrating so hard on driving, it seemed to take so much effort just to do the simple things…the next thing I knew I’d gone into the side of that car.
Oh, damn, the people in the other car, are they…?
Oh, thank God for that, I can’t believe I didn’t think about that earlier.
What little boy on a bike?
I didn’t see a little boy on a bike…
